Character Information
*Character Name: Kevin Ethan Levin
*Character Canon: Ben 10 (Original Series)
*Age: 11
*Race: Half-Human, Half-Osmosian
*Timeline/Pull Point: Pre-Alien Force, a few months after the flashback in Nor Iron Bars a Cage.
*History: Many years ago, a special agent working for an intergalactic police force called the Plumbers came to Earth and fell in love. He was an Osmosian, a humanoid alien with the natural ability to absorb and manipulate matter and energy, and on Earth he took the identity of Devin Levin and settled down with his wife. Not long after, a son was born, whom they lovingly named Kevin. Though Kevin looked human, the Osmosian DNA was dominant enough that the child inherited his father's powers.
However, tragedy struck the happy family. While Devin was on a mission in space, he was killed on the field -- leaving behind a widow, and a toddler with no one to teach him how to use his powers.
As the years passed, though, Kevin's mother eventually found love again and married another man, Harvey, hoping that a fatherly figure in her young son's life would be a positive influence. Unfortunately, this backfired horribly. Kevin, who idolized what little he remembered of his father, resented the idea of this man coming in to "replace" him. Tension grew between Kevin and his stepfather, and their relationship was strained even further as Kevin's powers began to manifest. Harvey was aware of Kevin's alien heritage and tried to accept him for who he was, but Kevin was only growing more resentful and destructive with powers he could barely control.
At age eleven, the stress came to a head as Kevin's powers went completely out of control and he demolished his home. Knowing he could never be accepted by his mom and stepdad as long as he was the freak he always was, Kevin ran away from home. He eventually made his way to New York, using his powers, his wits, and good old-fashioned criminal activity to get by. He eventually made a home for himself in an abandoned subway station, but all alone; He'd showed his powers to a select few teenagers, hoping for acceptance, but he was ridiculed and called a freak for it. Still, every now and again, loneliness and curiosity would drive him to take a chance and show someone his powers -- maybe, just maybe, he'd find someone who wouldn't reject him.
New York was a cruel place to live, but Kevin's powers gave him a leg up and allowed him to live comfortably and in relative peace, and he eventually found that person who wouldn't reject him -- or so he thought. At a run down arcade, Kevin met a tourist named Ben Tennyson, a ten year old kid who'd just gotten his family kicked out of a hotel for his own rebellious antics. Kevin took a liking to Ben immediately, and willingly showed off his powers by using energy manipulation to get him free tokens. Ben wasn't scared or disgusted by Kevin's powers, but actually impressed and thankful. The two of them hit it off immediately. When a local gang arrived to harass Kevin for trashing their hangout, a strange creature with super-speed came from nowhere to bail Kevin out of trouble, scaring them away. For the first time, Kevin had someone stepping up to defend him.
Kevin met with Ben again, who explained that he was friends with the creature. Ben's cousin, Gwen, insisted that Ben come with her and go back to their grandpa, but Ben wanted to stay and hang with Kevin for a little bit longer. Kevin opened up to Ben immediately, showing him the abandoned subway where he lived and touting the freedom and simplicity of his own life. Ben compared it to the stifling summer he was spending with his grandpa and Gwen, and how he got in trouble just for trying to sneak into a display and play a new video game before its press conference.
Kevin actually had word on the street of where the warehouse storing unreleased copies of the game was located, and offered to help Ben sneak in and steal his own copy, using his powers to break in and start looting. However, the authorities caught on and the two were surrounded by the authorities. Kevin used his powers to try to defend the two of them, but Ben offered another means of escape -- using his watch to transform into a flying alien and fly the two off to safety.
Ben carried Kevin off, and the two of them took a fly through the NYC skyline in a
high-speed police chase before they eventually evaded capture. Kevin was delighted to meet someone like him for the first time in his life, someone with powers that made him a freak... and what's more, someone who accepted him for who he was. He immediately offered Ben a partnership, a chance for the two of them to work together and strike it big. Ben readily accepted, and the two set out to enact a plan of Kevin's -- which is where everything went sour.
Kevin led Ben down to a crossing in the subway and switched the tracks, which would cause two high-speed trains to collide, releasing all the money that one train was carrying -- and killing hundreds of people on BOTH trains. Ben was suddenly disgusted with Kevin and refused to help, but Kevin didn't understand the problem and thought Ben was rejecting him like everyone else had throughout his life. Ben broke off the partnership and attacked Kevin, turning into various aliens to try and stop the kid -- what he hadn't anticipated, however, was that Kevin could absorb the transformation energy and mimic Ben's powers on a slightly less powerful scale.
The trains were rescued, but Kevin escaped with some of Ben's powers -- and Ben knew he wouldn't use them for good. Ben tracked Kevin down and confronted him, taking him down in a brutal confrontation... but not before Kevin could absorb massive amounts of energy from Ben's watch.
The energy that Kevin absorbed allowed him to turn into any of Ben's original set of ten aliens. Kevin used this power to travel the country and frame Ben for all kinds of crimes -- but since Kevin's body had no means of regulating the energy flow within him, Kevin was forced to stay in alien form almost all of the time. Eventually, Kevin overdid it with the powers and mutated, becoming a hideous monster made up of little bits of every alien in Ben's powerset. Kevin remains trapped in this form for the rest of the original series.
Events escalate from there, and Kevin becomes a primary antagonist, eventually teaming up with the alien conqueror Vilgax to try and steal the omnitrix to take over the world. However, this plan falls through, and Kevin was left trapped as a mutant in the Null Void -- an empty space between dimensions used as a prison for alien criminals. Maximum-security prison when he's no older than eleven.
In the Null Void, Kevin eventually met with a fellow prisoner named Kwarrell who managed to get through Kevin's rage and frustration at himself and start to try to teach the kid to get a better handle on himself. Kwarrell knew enough about Osmosians to help Kevin learn to regulate his powers and shed his mutation, becoming human-shaped again. In a few short months, Kwarrell became like a father to Kevin, and the two of them plotted to escape their prison together -- though when the time came, Kwarrell was caught and shot by the warden, and Kevin escaped alone.
Alone in the far reaches of outer space, Kevin had no way of getting back to Earth -- and even if he could, where would he go? To survive, Kevin fell into more criminal activity in throughout the galaxy, starting on a path that would lead him to eventually becoming a well-established black market tech dealer and con artist known all over the Universe.
*Personality: Kevin is
Kevin has trouble emphasizing with others, too caught up in his own issues to stop and think about how his actions affect others. This combined with irrational thinking caused by reckless use of his powers, and the strife he has to go through simply to survive each day, has eroded away Kevin's conscience and he's willing to go to violent extremes to get what he wants.
Despite this, Kevin does long for validation, someone who can interact with him without rejecting him for his powers or, more recently, his personality. He'll show off his skills to a stranger every now and then, hoping that maybe this time it'll be different. However, if and when he does find this acceptance, it'll still be on their head to earn Kevin's trust and loyalty -- if they ever do at all. When the people in your life have all turned against you, when you feel your own mother despises and rejects you, it's difficult to accept love from anyone else, even yourself.
So Kevin lives the life of a criminal, getting by and focusing only on himself and where his next payday's coming from. It seems lately he steals as much for the thrill as for the reward, but he also occupies his time with standard childish activities. Kevin enjoys video games and television, toys, movies, whatever he can pilfer. He also enjoys taking petty revenge on anyone who slighted him, like destroying the hangout of a a group of teenagers who roughed him up for being a "freak".
After his brief kinship with Kwarrell, Kevin's managed to control his anger and keep it confined to much more manageable levels. He's finally experienced what it's like to really care about (and lose) someone other than himself -- it's a new feeling for him, and it affected him deeply when Kwarrell was killed. Now that he's had that brief taste of fatherly affection and understanding, he craves more though is too proud to seek it out.
Now a criminal in space, Kevin's generally back to his more defensive, self-serving attitude, though his rage is a much slower burn than the quick fuse he used to be.
*Powers/Abilities: Kevin is half-Osmosian, and has all the powers that come with it. Kevin has the ability to absorb almost any kind of energy, matter, and special abilities, and has only recently learned to control this power.
For the longest time, the only power he understood was energy absorption and manipulation. He can touch almost anything and absorb nearly any kind of energy -- electicity, heat, etc., -- and release it when he needs to. Though primarily an attack power, Kevin has even learned to use it as a crude form of technopathy. He can unlock electric doors, bum freebies from vending machines, start up cars, and a number of other simple commands. Recently, however, Kevin learned that energy absorption can potentially make him crazy, irrational and more violent, so he's learned to avoid it completely.
The safest power Kevin can use is matter absorption. If he learns to tap into it, Kevin can touch anything -- metal, wood, plastic, diamond -- and rearrange the molecular structure of his body to match it. This becomes a quick instant armor for him if he touches the right stuff. When in this state, Kevin can also rearrange his shape a bit -- enough to create weapons like hammers or swords from the metal in his arms.
EXAMPLE (Kevin is 17 in this shot)
If Kevin learns to tap into his power-absorption ability, Kevin would be able to touch someone and copy any special abilities unique to their species... by being able to physically change to accomodate the power if necessary. For instance, temporarily growing wings, extra arms, altering the molecular makeup of his flesh, etc.
EXAMPLE 1
EXAMPLE 2
These changes are generally temporary, but can become permanent if he loses control or absorbs too much.

*First Person Sample:
Yeah, look, I dunno whose bright idea it was to dump me in the desert or whatever this is like yesterday's trash, but look here --
[He raises a hand and it fizzles with blue electricity. The light casts stark shadows over his face.]
That was a big mistake, buddy. 'Cause I'm gonna find you, and I'm gonna teach you a little lesson about wastefulness!
*Third Person Sample:
When Kevin finally ran away, he didn't know where he was going. New York hadn't been his intended destination. It existed only as an idea, some mythical hub of human contact that seemed too unreal to ever really arrive. But when he had, when fate had brought him there, he felt more powerful than he ever had in his life. So many people in such a crowded space meant so much energy being used every moment of every day. Unlike in the quiet suburbs he came from, New York was alive and active day and night, and he could feel it. Power was everywhere, only a touch away. He thought he was unstoppable.
Then, somehow or another, he came to Cybertron.
No more parents or cops or social services trying to tell him what to do. No more scraping around beneath anyone else's feet or through anyone's trash. Everyone here started on the same level, and Kevin wasn't gonna waste this opportunity. Power was everywhere. The people standing in his way weren't chumps to be suckered anymore; Now they were just stepping stones as he made his way in this weird robot world and made it his. It was about time he got what was coming to him.
Kevin drained the power from an energon-powered device -- he didn't even know what it was. He didn't care. The only thing that mattered was the resulting thrill, and the rush of power crackling up his arm.
Oh, yes. This place would do very nicely.
Final Notes: As a Lost, Kevin would have built some CR with the seedy underground of the Old Cybertron. He probably found a father figure in a Decepticon, likely a con-artist or arms dealer akin to Swindle, though anyone willing to take on a human kid as a henchman would do nicely. I see him playing a sort of Artful Dodger role, doing dirty work for his deceptidad and using his small size, childish age, and superpowers to his advantage. If he had any sort of reputation, it would be as this annoying punk kid that you can't trust.
As for memories Kevin would hold most dear, probably bonding with whomever he considered his father figure. Someone who took him in off the streets, gave him a home and a purpose and some affection. Whether or not Deceptidad actually loved Kevin doesn't really matter to me, because Kevin probably would have showered him in blind adoration as long as he could pretend to love the kid.
Anyway, bonding moments -- taking Kevin in, giving him idle signs of affection like contact or praise -- those things are what would mean the most to him, though he'd have plenty of memories of stealing, scavenging, and learning about tech from all over the Universe to trade and barter on Cybertron, too. If Kevin remembers that he shared these moments with someone he cared about, but completely draws a blank on a face or name, that could be a major source of internal conflict/guilt/frustration fr him.
Mods get final say, but I think Kevin could theoretically touch a Cybertronian and absorb energy from direct contact -- but considering the size difference, he'd probably be little more than a mosquito bite to most of them.
Since Kevin doesn't know how to use his powers, they can backfire on him terribly, and have in canon multiple times. Energy absorption, when used improperly, has the potential to drive an Osmosian insane with nearly unpredictable results. They can become erratic, psychotic, power-hungry, have an insatiable hunger for more and more energy... or all of the above. Or none of the above, with some other horrible fate.
Absorption of special abilities can be worse. If Kevin loses control of this power, as he has in canon, the powers he absorbs can overtake him completely and mutate him into a hideous mutant, an amalgamation of those he's leeched from.
If plot ever allows it, I'd like Kevin to eventually tap into this power and start recklessly absorbing powers from other refugees and eventually become a hideous robot alien human mutant guy. |D
